The Bridge Center of Schenectady, Inc. addresses the problem of moderate to severe chemical addiction among men age 17 and up through the use of intensive residential services that stress developing new behaviors which support a drug-free lifestyle.

The Board of Directors and Staff are dedicated to providing high quality residential services that are tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient who comes to us for help. These services are provided regardless of race, creed, age, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, arrest/conviction record or ability to pay. Our services are designed to help each client achieve his or her highest potential. In addition to enhancing the quality of life of those the program serves, the agency is strongly committed to providing a supportive and professional work environment for all staff and volunteers.

Program Description

The Bridge Center is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week residential treatment program for individuals with drug-related problems. It is a therapeutic milieu that is highly structured and behaviorally oriented. The program environment is designed to help each resident establish appropriate living skills as an alternative to abuse and dependence on drugs.

The therapy includes individual and group counseling, and family counseling as appropriate to treatment need. All treatment services are supervised and monitored by professionally trained staff. A host of supportive services is provided off-site through service agreements with other agencies in the community. These include general and continuing education, employment assistance, mental health assessment and counseling, case management and legal services. Also provided are transitional/aftercare services to facilitate the transition to living independently in the community, including participation in outside community support groups and opportunities to work or attend school for a period of time while continuing to receive treatment in the residential setting.

Admission Procedure

In order to be accepted into the Bridge Center residential program, a prospective resident must indicate a drug problem that has significantly interfered with his life. An intake screening at Bridge Center is conducted to determine levels of addiction and treatment needs.

The residential program is licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services and offers services, under contract to the Schenectady County Office of Community Services, to Schenectady County residents and individuals from Northeastern New York. Referrals from outside this region will be considered. Fees for services are most often paid through the Department of Social Services (home relief) and self-pay, as appropriate. Bridge Center welcomes both voluntary and court-mandated patients.
